Rendering Natural Waters: Merging Computer Graphics with Physics and Biology

چکیده
The creation and rendering of realistic water scenes is one of the challenging tasks in Computer Graphics. To reproduce the illumination and colour inside water bodies an algorithm capable of dealing with media with anisotropic and multiple scattering has to be used. We have developed a simulation system based in the discrete ordinates method to solve the problem of light transport in general participating media. We discuss its application to the rendering of images of natural waters, a difficult task due to the different components that determine their optical behaviour. A couple of simple images calculated in different waters are presented. Results indicate the relevant role played by the spectral behaviour of the absorption and scattering coefficients and by the correct treatment of the phase function in the process of image generation.

Rendering Natural Waters
Creating and rendering realistic water is one of the most daunting tasks in computer graphics. Realistic rendering of water requires that the sunlight and skylight illumination are correct, the water surface is modeled accurately and that the light transport within water body is properly handled. This paper describes a method for wave generation on a water surface using a physically-based appro...

متن کاملAutomatic perceptual color map generation for realistic volume visualization
Advances in computed tomography imaging technology and inexpensive high performance computer graphics hardware are making high-resolution, full color (24-bit) volume visualizations commonplace. However, many of the color maps used in volume rendering provide questionable value in knowledge representation and are non-perceptual thus biasing data analysis or even obscuring information. These draw...
متن کاملNative browser support for 3D rendering and physics using WebGL, HTML5 and Javascript
In the last few years, JavaScript libraries have been developed to enable developers to create and manipulate 3D objects in the browser. These JavaScript libraries incorporate physics and 3D processing algorithms, HTML 5 elements and technologies (such as canvas and background workers), and the Web Graphics Library (WebGL). This paper provides an insight into these technologies, and describes t...

Image Segmentation for Stylized Non-Photorealistic Rendering and Animation Alexander Kolliopoulos Master of Science Graduate Department of Computer Science University of Toronto 2005 This thesis approaches the problem of non-photorealistic rendering by identifying segments in the image plane and filling them using algorithms to render in artistic styles. Using segments as a 2D primitive for non...
